Oakland 2100 was created and built by the Oakland 2100 team: Noah Friendman, Courtney Ferris, Steve Pepples and Master of Urban Design Graduate Students during the Spring 2019 semester studio. The exhibit allows people of all ages to envision their future of Oakland in the year 2100 by placing blocks that represent different land uses on the existing base of buildings that exist today. The bricks represent the amount of new capacity that is needed in 2100. The challenge is where to put all of the bricks on the base.

Oakland 2100 is a game where people work together to imagine the future of downtown Oakland. Players navigate trade-offs, prioritize and place investments and engage other players in the type of negotiations that happen in the building of cities every day. During the game, players leverage the power of art, design, and play to shape a vision of Oakland that is built by and for Oaklanders, while learning about the complexities that exist in long-range planning, design, development, and financing.
