GREAT MALL PARKWAY URBAN FIELD

Why Urban Field?

Our approach seeks to integrate various elements of human life to enhance well-being, community bonds, and environmental responsibility. Collaboration, multidisciplinary teams, near and long-term thinking, quality of space, human interaction, and strategic deployment of capital into the public realm are integral to our practice.

Origin story

Urban Field Studio originated in 2014 as a collaborative team of urban designers in the San Francisco Bay Area, founded by Jane Lin and Heidi Sokolowsky. The studio, certified as a Small Business Entity and Women-Owned Business, grew over the years. Between 2015 and 2023, architects Frank Fuller, Ryan Call, and John Bela joined the team, transforming Urban Field into a collective of experts with global experience in master planning and public realm design.

Today, we specialize in development strategy, conceptual design, public space design, design guidance, and master planning to unlock the physical potential of sites. Our core commitment lies in shaping the future of the communities we serve, prioritizing their sustainability and resilience.

Our Unique Structure

What sets us apart is not only our collective power but our hands-on commitment to each other and to our clients. Our organizational structure is aligned with our approach to collaboration. We each own our own business entity and collaborate on teams under the Urban Field umbrella.

This model for practicing design ensures that decision-making is transparent, collective, and community-centric. With this structure, we behold our own destiny, which allows us to be  actively engaged in every project while also providing access to the resources of our greater network.
